Novelletum (Latin for “a grove of young trees”) is a place where
young minds grow strong. We don’t just teach French.
We restore the desire to learn.

Every child deserves to be seen, heard, and respected as an
individual. Free to be themselves, children discover the joy
of learning. Curiosity is the greatest teacher of all.

Excellence is rooted in education.
We teach French through ideas that help children understand
the world, think independently, and grow with confidence.

Teaching French as a Second Language

UQAM diploma

Yulia taught in Montréal public schools (CSDM), including classes d’accueil—intensive
French programmes for children new to the language. Her work also includes extensive
experience supporting students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and Asperger’s.

With 20+ years of teaching experience, Yulia has developed her own grammar system—
breaking down the complexities of French into clear, logical patterns that make the
language easier to understand and master.

Learning has always been part of her family. Her father speaks four languages fluently.
Today, her daughter studies at McGill, preparing for a career in teaching.
Three generations. One thread.

What Families Say

"Yulia’s lessons have helped me overcome the self-consciousness I felt about my French. Her approach is always adapted to the student’s needs, which makes learning both motivating and inspiring. It has been a real pleasure to learn and grow with such a caring, engaging, and thoughtful teacher. Thank you!"
Olena Kucherenko (Student) Montréal, Canada
"I started learning French because I wanted to be able to communicate with my nieces, who live in Switzerland. After a year of working with Yulia, I can now have real conversations with them and feel much more connected to my family. Being able to communicate with them in French means a great deal to me."
Elizaveta Kuznetsova (Student) Moscow · Russia
"Our son had gradually lost confidence in his ability to learn. He often became overwhelmed by unfamiliar tasks and would withdraw when something felt too difficult, which made learning increasingly frustrating for him. Yulia was incredibly patient and attentive to the way he learns, giving him the time, structure, and encouragement he needed without ever putting pressure on him. Little by little, he became more comfortable, started taking on challenges again, and rediscovered the joy of learning."

"I always come away from my lessons having learned something new. Yulia makes French engaging by connecting it to the world around me, and my curiosity has grown alongside my language skills. I never feel that I’m simply memorizing rules — I’m learning to understand and explore."
Name withheld (Student) Montréal · Canada
"Yulia has helped me become much more independent in my learning. I now feel more comfortable expressing my ideas in French and have learned how to approach challenging tasks with much greater confidence. Her guidance has taught me not only how to improve, but also how to find my own way through difficulties."
Name withheld (Student) Vancouver, Canada
"Our son used to become frustrated whenever he felt he wasn’t keeping up in French. Yulia helped him rebuild his confidence at his own pace, without making him feel pressured or judged. What surprised us most was how quickly his attitude changed—he now enjoys his lessons and often looks forward to them."
Christina Maxwell (Parent) New York City · US
"The lessons are structured and engaging, but what we appreciate most is how closely Yulia adapts them to our daughter. She notices when something isn’t clicking and finds a different way to explain it, rather than simply moving on. We started noticing real progress after just a few weeks, especially in her confidence when speaking French."
Yuliia & Artem Verkholiak (Parents) Montréal · Canada
"Yulia quickly found the right approach for our daughter, who had always found French a little intimidating. She knows how to make difficult things feel approachable without making them feel childish. Her lessons are thoughtful and engaging, and it has been wonderful to see our daughter become more curious, more confident, and genuinely excited about learning French."
Svetlana Grishova (Parent) Switzerland
"With a demanding sports schedule, I had very little time for French. Yulia helped me use every lesson effectively and make remarkable progress, allowing me to successfully complete my Classe d’accueil programme."
Yulia Halm (Student) Strasbourg · France
